I have had a passion for performance cars and car tuning for years ever since my uncle took me out in his sports car and showed me what acceleration really meant.

I have owned many cars over the years and never really done much to them until I discovered the amazing world of modified and custom cars.

At the time I had a Rover 220 GTi, my first hot hatch and I loved it. Sadly though most of the performance parts, additives and tuning parts were a complete rip off. It was with this motivation that I set up this site to warn others about the mistakes. It cost me a small fortune to finally get the car to the standard that I wanted.

Since that car I have owned a couple of high performance Audi Turbo's and spend my modification budget very carefully.

I quickly found that I was not alone in discovering the poor information and outrageous implied performance claims and so I decided to establish a no nonsense guide to car tuning that blows a lot of commonly held myths out of the water. We also explain what the aims and intentions of each type of modification are as well as providing tips on car care, how to articles and information to help you get the best out of your car.

We also strongly advocate sensible driving and advanced driving techniques and help our members prepare their cars for track days where they can safely explore the limits of their cars.

We are truly independent and are not pushing an agenda, and we are not afraid to state if something doesn't work or is a complete rip off.

There are also many "boy racers" around who give the world of car tuning a bad name with their antisocial driving, loud exhausts and general poor driving.

I have seen the site and forums grow beyond my wildest expectations and dreams and managing this site is taking up more and more of my time. It has quite literally grown from a hobby into an obsession. Although based in the UK we have quickly built up an international following.

TorqueCars is very dependent on it's members, we read all the feedback and comments left on our articles and unlike lots of other sites we are continually revising and updating our content to reflect the latest cutting edge trends in car modification.

We also have some user submitted articles around the site and welcome articles from journalists, writers and DIY enthusiasts.

We are supported by sponsored advertisers around the site and these help to pay our hosting fees. Our members also help support us by buying stickers, t shirts and mugs and it helps to spread the word. We also welcome donations towards our running costs and thank all those who work behind the scenes to make our web site and forums such a great place to be.

The forums have quickly blown past the 20,000 member mark and we still rank as one of the fastest growing car forums around as well as being one of the friendliest.

Please enjoy the site, if you find something broken, or wrong please tell me so I can put it right. We are all here to share our knowledge and we never stop learning.

Best regards

Waynne Smith
